wetland biodiversity values and potential for sustainable utilization in arid and semi-arid lands of Kenya

The types of wetlands and the biodiversity that they represent in arid and semi-arid areas are outlined The values and functions of wetlands are given in the light of the prevailing socioeconomic environment in dry areas of Kenya. The potential for biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of wetland resources are discussed and the priority needs for management of wetlands in dry lands outlined. The importance of balancing human development and conservation needs is emphasized.
