General objectives of KARI, to generate technologies for improving the quality and quantity of crops grown for both income and food, hence ensure food securiy, adequate nutrition and continued supply of high quality export and agro-industries. Other objectives to improve and diversify the agricultural export base and to contribute to import substitution; to improve living standards of the people through better returns to labour and increased incomes.
