KARI Kenya Agricultural Research Institute transferring drip irrigation technology to small-scale farmers

Describes drip irrigation system, its potential benefits over other irrigation methods and its limitation. Also highlights the progress of small scale drip irrigation project at KARI. The irrigation system has been well recieved by small scale farmers and women groups and has great potential for home gardens and small scale commercial production of vegetables. The four types of small scale drip irrigation technologies which are being introduced to farmers are briefly described. The drip irrigation system has been installed at various research stations for demonstration purposes. The irrigation kits are also available to farmers at the same centres at a minimum cost.
