An Animal Scientist with 30 years research experience, initially concentrating on monogastric nutrition at KARI’s National Animal Husbandry Research Centre at Naivasha. Worked as the Animal Nutritionist since 1988 to 1994 within the KARI/ILCA collaborative programme of research to support smallholder dairy cattle development in the coastal Kenya.  Was an ILCA PhD graduate associate registered with the University of Aberdeen, U.K. Assisted a PhD ILCA graduate associate registered in the University of Aberdeen in 1993 to 1995 in carrying out nutritional trials at the centre. Has been a supervisor for six MSc students (three from Egerton University and three students) and one PhD student  from Nairobi University. Has been an external examiner in Egerton and Nairobi University (Animal Science). Is a referee for the Agricultural Systems journal (Elsevier). Currently, the Centre Director at KARI's Adaptive Research Centre at Mtwapa supervising a team of 21 Research Scientists and 88 support staff. The Centre collaborates with the Ministry of agriculture, Ministry of Livestock , Coast Development Authority (CDA) and other Institutions on issues related to food self sufficiency in Coast Province. Working with farmers’ groups in the region not only to transfer agricultural technologies but also to enhance food production and catalyse empowerment of farmers in agribusiness. Has done research on utilization of cassava as an animal feed and is currently the Co-Principal investigator in two projects promoting cassava promotion in coastal and eastern Kenya. [more...]
