Adaptive
Research Conference
The Kenya
Agricultural Research Institute announces it's first
adaptive research conference. The conference will
give an opportunity to interested parties to give
presentations of the adaptive research processes and
findings. This brochure provides specifications of
presentations for the conference

KARI's adaptive research processes
Ø To share relevant adaptive research findings and
achievements
Ø To chart future strategies for KARI's adaptive research
Papers
Those wishing to present papers should submit first
drafts of the papers by 14th April 2003 and the final
copies of the accepted papers to be received by 23rd
May 2003. Papers that do not meet the deadline shall
be disqualified
All papers
should be typed and double spaced and should include:
Ø title and name(s), institutional affiliation(s)
and complete mailing address(es) of the author(s)
with an
indication of which author is responsible for correspondence
Ø objectives, methods, results, conclusions and recommendations.
Publication
of Papers
Papers presented at the conference will be published
in a volume tentatively titled "Proceedings of
the 1st Adaptive Research Conference".
Session
Specification
Though sessions will be composed of commodity/factor,
(crops, livestock, range, soil and water, socio-economics
and biometrics, information documentation and dissemination),
the processes of adaptive research e.g surveys, methodologies,
verification/validation of technologies, adoption
and impact studies must be reflected.
Manuscript
Requirements
Papers must be in English, typed on A4 size paper
and not longer than eight (8) double spaced typewritten
pages including tables and figures. Pages should be
numbered consecutively with author's names and a running
title at the top of each page. Hard copies of all
manuscripts should be submitted in duplicate and the
diskette copies should be in Ms. Word for Windows
95 or 97.
Cover,
Title, Author and Running Heads
The cover page should include the title of the paper,
the names and complete mailing addresses of the authors
with an indication of which author is responsible
for correspondence. The name of the author to present
the paper should be underlined. Include telephone,
e-mail and fax numbers for ease of communication.
The title of the paper should represent the content
of the article and briefly
Literature
Cited
Names of journals should be spelled out in their entirety
followed by the Volume Number (and Issue Number where
available). Page numbers should be inclusive and follow
a colon after the Volume Number. For books, give the
city of publication and the name of the publisher.
Do not include number of pages unless you are referring
to a section of the book.
Poster
Session
There will be several poster sessions during the conference.
Papers that may not be accommodated in the main plenary
sessions may be presented in the poster sessions.
All posters should fit into a poster board measuring
1682x2378mm. A good poster should:
Ø be simple,
informative, visually appealing and attractive
Ø be easy to read and understand with relevant legend
Ø contain text and illustrative matter harmoniously
combined to produce an effective presentation
Ø tell the complete story.
