The Naivasha Research Centre is in Nakuru District, Rift
Valley Province, at an altitude of 1936 m, latitude 0o40'
S and longitude 36o26'E. The mean annual rainfall is 657
mm; mean annual evaporation is 1820.00 mm. The soil types
are chromic Cambisols salin and Sodic phases, gleyic Cambisols
sodic phase.
The centre's mandate is to research on animal production,
focusing on breeding, nutrition, feeding and management
of livestock.
Research programmes co-ordinated or conducted by the centre
are the national dairy research programme, the Sahiwal breeding
programme, the poultry research programme, the dual purpose
goat breeding programme, the pig research programme and
research support services.
