Internal Databases
1. Kenya Agricultural Research Database
(KARD)
KARD is to assist NARP and underpin its
research priorities by providing effective
and efficient library and information service
by giving current and past information on
scientific and technical literature. It
therefore avails past research for researchers
to build onto their experienceIt contains
citations to agricultural research literature,
on Kenyan agriculture, from published sources
and also 'grey' literature sources which
have not previously been available in electronic
form. Each record includes a full bibliographic
citation, descriptors, document locations
and abstract
2. Gender Agricultural Research Database
(GARD)
Has bibliographic data on Gender in agriculture e.g.
Title, Authors, Publisher, etc of the Abstracted documents.
Reference base of all documented research on Gender
and technology development and transfer in agriculture.
This is to assist scientists wishing to incorporate
gender into their research programs by facilitating
access and retrieval of information and documents. It
aims to consolidate relevant experience on gender, in
Kenya.
3. CLIS (Books)
Central Library and Information Services
Database. It collects bibliographic data
on monograph (book) collections from all
KARI libraries (the one under review is
from KARI HQTS library)
A consolidated list will be held at KARI
HTQS and availed to centre libraries for
reference.
It contains all the details of the book
to be identified uniquely. This aids in
building a search strategy and retrieval
of documents.
4. CROVAD
Crop Varieties Database (CROVAD) hosts data from
KARI Research Centres on crop varieties It is
aimed to facilitate adoption of KARI's technologies
on crops by farmers.

TROPAG & RURAL
CD from the department of Information, Library
and Documentation of Royal Tropical Institute
[Koninklijk Instituut Voor De Tropen (KIT)] (Netherlands)
contains abstracts from the literature on the
developing rural areas of Africa, Asia, the Pacific
and the Americas.
In the TROPAG database over 5,000 journals and
relevant literature on agricultural development,
crop cultivation, animal husbandry, forage and
pasture, forestry, post-harvest operations, farming
systems and environmental management in the tropical
regions from 1975 onwards are covered. The RURAL
database covers social and economic development
in rural areas of developing countries from 1985
to the present.
World-renowned CABCD
Is the largest professionally produced database
covering international issues in agriculture,
forestry, and allied disciplines in the life sciences.
The database contains over 3.5 million records
from over 11,000 journals. books, conferences,
reports, and other kinds of literature published
internationally. Subjects covered include animal
and crop husbandry, animal and plant breeding,
plant protection, genetics, forestry engineering,
economics, veterinary medicine, human nutrition,
and rural development. Coverage is from 1973 to
the present.
AGRICOLA
(by U.S. National Agricultural Library; U.S National
Technical Information Service), is the most comprehensive
source of bibliographic citations covering US
agricultural and life sciences information. AGRICOLA
offers vital agricultural information from 1970
to the present. It contains over 3.7 million citations
to journal articles, monographs, theses, patents,
software, audio-visual materials, and technical
reports related to agriculture. These records
describe publications and resources encompassing
all aspects of agriculture and allied disciplines,
including animal and veterinary sciences, entomology,
plant sciences, forestry, aquaculture and fisheries,
farming and farming systems, agricultural economics
and earth and environmental sciences. AGRICOLA
serves as the document locator and bibliographic
control system for the NAL collection. The extensive
file provides comprehensive coverage of newly
acquired world wide publications in agriculture
and related fields.

AGRIS
Is produced by Information System for the Agricultural
Sciences and TechnologyAGRIS provides world wide
bibliographic coverage of agricultural science
and technology literature. Assembled by the AGRIS
Co-ordinating Centre, the Food and Agriculture
Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations, AGRIS
offers an international perspective on crucial
agricultural research. The many aspects of agriculture,
including forestry, animal husbandry, aquatic
sciences and fisheries, and human nutrition from
over 135 participating countries are covered.
Literature includes unique material such as unpublished
scientific and technical reports, theses, conference
papers, government publications, and more. Approximately
130,000 records are added each year with key words
in English, French, and Spanish. The archival
discs now cover 1975 through 1990. The current
disc covers from 1991 to the present.
CPC (Crop Protection Compendium)
The Crop Protection Compendium is an encyclopaedic,
multimedia tool that brings together a wide range
of different types of science-based information
on all aspects of crop protection. It includes
comprehensive information on over 1500 pests,
diseases, weeds and natural enemies of world wide
or regional importance, each with text, illustrations
and a distribution map. Outline data is available
for 10,000 species, all contained in an intelligent
taxonomic framework. Data is included for more
than 150 crops and countries. A novel system of
hyper linking allows dynamic links to be created
in real time. Arrangement of the content in a
large relational database facilitates identification
of potential plant disease/pest problems, and
points to control methods.Information is got from
over 800 experts, edited and compiled by an independent
scientific organisation, and resources by a diverse
international Development Consortium. It is published
on CD-ROM, linked to the World Wide Web, and is
updated regularly. All the information you need

Africa MetPro 1.0 CD
USAID's Africa Met Pro 1.0 by Mud Springs Geographers,
Inc. is a software designed to give graphical
access to daily meteorological records and to
provide several analytical tools for the same.
Specifically, MetPro 1.0 is designed to deliver
seasonal - and weekly (period based) - probabilities
of specific meteorological events (e.g., "between
15 March and 10 June, there is a 70% probability
of receiving 350 mm"). It focus information
on seasonal rainfall. Its mechanisms evaluate
precipitation events and, in light of the ENSO
phenomena (El Nino / Southern Oscillation), we
built in a capability to calculate the rainfall
probabilities based on a user selected set of
years (the 'tele-connections' associated with
El Nino or La Nina years...) ranging from 1987
to 1998 The daily records accompanying this release
were processed by Mud Springs Geographers, Both
the software-database is installed from the CD
and run from hard disk on insertion of the CD
in its drive.
FAO on the Internet CD-ROM
FAO on the internet CD-ROM is produced regularly
as an off-line service of WAICENT and contains
information published on the FAO Web site as of
he end of July 1998.
