The Kisii Research Centre is in Nyanza Province, at an
altitude of 1760m, latitude 0° 41°S and longitude
34° 48°E
The mean annual rainfall is 2089.14 mm. The mean annual
evaporation rate is 1783 mm. The soil types according
to FAO/UNESCO classification are Nitisols, and Utisols
according to the USDA classification.
The centre's mandate is to carry out adaptive and demand-driven
research in the 12 districts including Homa Bay, Rachuonyo,
Migori, Central Kisii , North Kisii, Bormet, Southern
Kisii, and Nyamira districts.
Research activities conducted at the centre are on soil
and water management, the plant protection, and livestock
management programmes.
