The Kibos Research Centre is in Kisumu District, Nyanza
Province, at an altitude of 1184 m, latitude 0° 3'S
and longitude 34° 48°E. The mean annual rainfall
is 1093mm. Th mean evaporation 1955 mm. The soil types
according to FAO/UNESCO classification are chromic Vertisols,
and Vertisols according to USDA classification.
The center's mandate is to conduct research on cotton
and rainfed rice respectively. The research programmes
coordinated or conducted by the centre include the cotton
research programme and the rice research programme.
