KARI is run by a Board of Management
which oversees the affairs of the institute and makes
decisions on policy matters. The Board is made up of appointed
members (one of whom is the chairman); ex-officio members
-- including representatives of various ministries whose
activities have an agricultural orientation; the Secretary
to the National Council for Science and Technology; and
the Director KARI who is the Chief Executive of the Institute
and Secretary to the Board. To facilitate the work of
the Board, two committees, Finance and Administration
and; the Research and Technical Committees.
The Institute is administered by the
Director and two deputies, one responsible for Research
and Technology and the other for Finance and Administration.
The hierarchical organisation of the
institute can be summarised under three levels and encapsulated
in the organogramme shown below.

The Centre Directors and Assistant
Directors
The Centre Directors are senior scientists
whose primary focus is the management of centre operations.
They are accountable to the Deputy Director of Research
and Technology, and maintain fiscal responsibility and
quality control functions.
The Assistant Directors (research)
are programme leaders under the Director of Research and
Technology. The rest of the Assistant Directors report
to the Deputy Director of Administration and Finance.
