Agricultural Research Investments and Services
(ARIS) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Kenya Agriculture
Research Institute (KARI) whose responsibility
is to link KARI's agricultural research and development
with the private sector.
Objectives of ARIS
The major objectives of ARIS include:
-
To provide a mechanism and
outlet for marketing and commercializing
KARI products, capabilities and services
in order to make them sustainably available
and accessible to the wider agriculture
sector for increased production, economic
impact and poverty alleviation.
-
To stimulate development
of commercial agricultural enterprises based
on locally researched agricultural techno-products
and knowledge, thus creating a long-term
demand and supply system, whereby the private
agricultural sector is constantly looking
for new technological innovations for use
in investments and KARI is constantly working
in research and development to supply to
meet the demand.
-
To transfer proven agricultural
technology and knowledge from KARI research
centres to the private agricultural sector
by demonstrating the commercial application
and potential through model commercial enterprises
managed by ARIS.
These broad objectives are achieved through
application of specific KARI products, services
and resources in commercialization as follows,
-
Mobilization of scientific
human resources and expertise in offering
value added advisory and consultancy services
in the agricultural sector locally and in
the region. The institute has 453 scientists.
-
Development and negotiation
for agreements on use of KARI intellectual
properties in commerce by the private sector.
-
Commercial multiplication
of some techno-products on KARI surplus
land and capital resources.
