Dr Titus P. Lanyasunya is a principal research officer with 18 years of experience in research (both Strategic and adaptive) and currently the head of dairy research programme in Naivasha and Coordinator of the regional dairy centre of excellence. Lanyasunya was born on 10th June 1966 at Lolkunono village, Ting’a sub-location, Loosuk location, Kirisia division, Samburu district. He is a holder of Bsc in Animal production (Egerton University), Msc in Livestock production systems (Wageningen University/Netherlands) and PhD in Animal Nutrition (Yangzhou University/PR China), Certificate in livestock systems modeling (Texa A & M/USA), Certificate in Research-Extension-Farmer linkages (ESAMI/Zambia), Certificate in Information management systems (ISNAR/Kenya) and Certificate in Gender advisory (KARI/Kenya). Since joining KARI, Lanyasunya has managed to publish 24 articles in refereed journals, over 30 articles in international conferences, four book chapters, two extension booklets and two articles in key farmers’ magazines. He has also won several competitive research grants, dairy consultancies, established robust international collaborative research linkages and several recognition awards. The most notable being: 1) Nomination as KARI scientist of the year in 2007 (the award was presented to by the Chairman – KARI Board of Management: Dr J. Mutugi) and 2) decorated with Order of Grand Warrior of Kenya (OGW) award which was presented to him by His Excellency President Mwai Kibaki in December 2008 for distinguished service to the nation. Dr Lanyasunya has also played pivotal role in the development of the Regional Dairy Centre of Excellence (RDCoE) serving the entire Central and Eastern Africa Region (ECA). The project is supported by the World Bank to the tune of US $ 30 million for a period of five years.
