Activities

    Breeding:
  • Breed Pyrethrum Clones and Varieties with desirable characteristics
  • Collect, maintain and preserve pyrethrum germplasm
    Agronomy:
  • Conduct a Situational analysis on the current status of pyrethrum production in Kenya
  • Study the use of short duration grain legumes as suitable intercrops in pyrethrum
  • Assess the production, use, acceptability, and availability of botanical plants and their role in agricultural value chain
  • Study effects of different soil amendments strategies on soil fertility in pyrethrum fields
    Pathology:
  • Study the use of pyrethrum based products and inorganic pesticides in the control of pests in vegetables and cereals
  • Study factors affecting the development of Fusarium Wilt Disease in pyrethrum and possible control measures
    Temperate fruit development:
  • Conduct a Situational analysis on the current temperate fruit production status in Kenya highlands.
  • Develop a temperate fruit mother block and a fruit nursery
    Socio-economics:
  • Impact assessment of developed technologies; Identification of factors affecting adoption and the role of gender in pyrethrum production
  • Impact assessment of delayed pyrethrum payments on small scale farmers
