KARI Kitale Maize Agronomy Sub-programme

The Maize Agronomy Sub-programme conducts research on all maize husbandry practices with the aim of generating recommendations to maximize production per unit area.  Many years of research have shown that timely land preparation and planting, correct choice of maize verities for the agro-ecological zone, adoption of appropriate spatial arrangements, effective methods and timely weed control, application of recommended fertilizers and rates, control of pests and diseases and use of appropriate cropping systems are important factors for increased maize production.
