Kabete: Ruth L. Amata

Ruth L. Amata is a Senior Research Officer and has a PhD in Agriculture and her area of specialty is Plant Pathology. My PhD thesis was on Fusarium species associated with millets in Kenya and in Australia. Her PhD research mainly involved molecular and sexual compatibility studies on fungi in the genus Fusarium. She is  currently the Co-Principal investigator of 3 regional projects namely BiosafeTrain, Bio-Innovate and Integrated Pest Management Collaborative Research Program (IPM CRSP). The BiosafeTrain Project is an ENRECA project funded by DANIDA and aims to build capacity in biosafety and conduct ecological impact assessment of transgenic plants in E. Africa. The Bio-innovate project which is funded by SIDA is undertaking research on development of improved seed systems and appropriate varieties of cassava and sweet potato resilient to climate change. Research undertaken on the IPM CRSP Project aims at developing technologies that address pest and disease constraints in tomato, onion and passion fruit production. I am also involved in fungal disease diagnostics and supervision of post graduate students.
