Kabete: Joab W. Onyango

Joab W. Onyango ia a Senior Research Scientist and holds a BSc in Botany and Geography from University of Nairobi and a Master of Arts in tropical climatology from the University of Wales, UK. He is also trained in agricultural meteorology, scientific writing and presentation, strengthening linkages between research and technology users, gender sensitization in agricultural research and extension and on-farm design, experimentation and statistical analysis of data. He has also attended a fellowship in agro-climatic modelling trained by International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna, Austria in soil and water management and crop nutrition. He has served as a key collaborator in the committee for memorandum of understanding, development and implementation of joint activities between KARI and Kenya Meteorological Department and carried out consultancy on agro-climatic implications for establishment of Soya for the national GTZ-Soya Bean Project. He is a member of the Finnish/WMO/GoK sponsored multidisciplinary Project Research team with other institutional collaborators. He is affiliated to the professional bodies of Kenya Meteorological Society, Arid Land Information Network-East Africa, Soil and Water Management Network of ASARECA, Agro-forestry Network (AfNET) and Soil Science Society of East Africa. He has presented and published over 30 papers in refereed journals, workshops, national and international conferences.
