Information Technology Unit

ITU is responsible for ensuring effective electronic networking, as well as management of computer software and hardware throughout KARI. It renders its services through its constituent sub units mentioned below:

  1. Networks and Hardware Infrastructure Management
  2. Business Information Solutions Management
  3. Training, Support and Customer Relations Management

Networks and Hardware Infrastructure Management

It has an overall responsibility for managing networks and hardware systems, implementing and operating the IT infrastructure including Wide Area Networks (WAN), Local Area Networks (LAN), Data centers, Servers and Desktop Systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide Strategic direction the organizations network and hardware infrastructure
  2. Formulating and implementation of solutions for network and hardware infrastructure requirements
  3. Carrying out strategic evaluations for network and hardware selections and supervising the technical execution of these solutions
  4. Managing network and hardware systems
  5. Preparing IT budgets and strategic plans

Duties:

  1. Responding to and resolving escalated network problems
  2. Co-ordinating and helping to perform network installations
  3. Monitoring network systems
  4. Maintaining detailed documentation and network drawings
  5. Setting server/desktop strategies and priorities
  6. Responding to and resolving escalated hardware problems
  7. Co-ordinating and helping perform server and desktop installations
  8. Monitoring desktop and server systems and maintaining detailed configuration documentation.

Business and Information Systems Management

It has an overall responsibility for systems application both at the front end and back end technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Providing strategic direction on the organization's systems and applications
  2. Formulating and implementing solutions for application and back-end infrastructure requirements
  3. Carry out strategic evaluations and software application selection
  4. Supervising the technical execution of these solutions
  5. Managing Database Systems, Messaging systems, including client-server solutions and Management Information Systems
  6. Redeveloping and implementing back-end systems
  7. Managing IT contractors
  8. Preparing IT budgets and strategic plans

Duties

  1. Developing application to operate on modern operating systems
  2. Preparing modules and reports for effective database management
  3. Adding modern functionality to existing applications
  4. High level code and application debugging
  5. Application role-out development and upgrades
  6. Electronic applications developments (Websites, e-commerce, and others)

Training, Support and Customer Relations Management

It has an overall responsibility for user support, training and monitoring performance of existing systems usability and user response.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Developing and managing training and adoption programmes to ensure quality service delivery and resource productivity.
  2. Providing strategic systems planning, project planning and disaster recovery programmes
  3. Developing and managing a professional help desk and call center operation.
  4. Reporting on performance and usability of existing systems and implementing proposed improvement programmes

Duties:

  1. Maintain a log of user request and response
  2. Maintain a quality service level within the user environment
  3. Maintain a defined status of growth of user education
