Dominic Ngunia Nzeve
Dominic Ngunia Nzeve is the officer in charge KARI Biosafety green house-Since 2009.
From June 2004 to December 2008, he held the position of technical head of insect bioassay laboratory at KARI Biotechnology Center. Prior to transferring to KARI-Biotechnology Center he worked at KARI-Mwea in Entomology Laboratory where he assisted the scientist in charge on rearing Entmopathogenic nematodes (EPNS) and using them as alternative Bio-pesticide in 2000 to 2004.He was among the first technicians who were involved in Bt-Cotton work. He was also involved in safety testing of different chemicals for use in controlling major cotton pests.
Dominic Ngunia Nzeve was employed by KARI in 1987 and seconded to then CIBC in KARI-Muguga South. Here he worked on different Research Projects comprising of Biological control of insect pests and control of aquatic weeds. He has wide and vast knowledge in rearing insect pests, EPNS, culturing pathogens and rearing natural enemies (Biological control agents).He was later transferred to KARI- Mwea in 2000, were he worked until his transfer to KARI-Biotechnology Centre in 2004.
He has a Diploma in microbiology from the Kenya Polytechnic University College 2008.
Professional interests
1. Experience and interest in biosafety and risk assessment, bio-policy and bioethics.
2. Experience and interest in biological control, integrated pests and weed management.
3. Research management and experience in team building and promoting inter-institutional collaboration in research and development.
4. Genotypic screening of BT and transgenic crops
5. Experience and interest in gene flow from GMO or Transgenic to our local plant varieties.
Dominic is a citizen of Kenya. He is married to Joyce and has two children (Bernice, 22; and Nzioka, 19 ;)
